WTA to Be Headquartered in Hangzhou
On December 17, the Signing Ceremony of the Document of Strategic Cooperation between the World Tourism Alliance (WTA) and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province took place in Beijing. Under the joint witness of WTA Founder and China National Tourism Administration’s Chairman Dr. Li Jinzao, and Zhejiang Province’s Governor Yuan Jiajun, the document was signed between WTA Chairman Duan Qiang, and Zhejiang Province’s Vice-Governor Liang Liming, symbolizing WTA to be officially headquartered in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
For the seat of an international organization’s headquarters, it’s global common practice of mutual choice between the organization and a provincial government of the host country. This practice promotes cooperative development and win-win outcomes. The seat of the WTA headquarters is of far-reaching significance for this organization and after deliberation, five candidate cities, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Xi’an, and Xiamen, 5 representatives of “Excellent Tourist City”, from East, Mid, and West China, stood out with relatively developed tourism industry and good geographical advantages. In line with the principles of fairness, openness and transparency, the WTA Organizing Committee held a judging panel, who strictly followed the Voting Regulation of Choosing the Residence of the WTA Headquarters, cast and counted the votes right on the spot. Hangzhou won the bid to host the WTA headquarters with the highest vote.
In accordance with the Document, WTA and Zhejiang Government will establish a well-connected cooperative mechanism to facilitate the headquarters to settle down in Hangzhou. Building up the headquarters will deepen international tourism communication and collaboration as well as propel the healthy and sustainable development of Zhejiang’s tourism industry. WTA will hold international tourism events in Zhejiang, actively support the latter bring in world tourism professionals and help introduce the residence of large tourism groups’ headquarters in Zhejiang. And Zhejiang Government will provide sound guarantee for the settling down of the WTA headquarters.
Founded on September 12, 2017, WTA is the first non-government, non-profit international organization in the global tourism field launched by China. Aiming at “Better Tourism, Better Life, Better World”, WTA is committed to promoting tourism for peace, development and poverty-alleviation based on mutual trust, respect, support and win-win outcomes. WTA and UNWTO go hand in hand and stand complementary to each other, serving as double engines to drive global tourism exchanges and cooperation at the non-governmental and inter-governmental levels.
WTA Organizing Committee’s Deputy Directors and China National Tourism Administration’s Vice Chairmen Du Jiang, Li Shihong, Wang Xiaofeng and Wei Hongtao, and Zhejiang Province’s Vice Secretary-General Wang Xiaofeng, Zhejiang Tourism Administration’s Director-General Xie Jijian, Zhejiang Province’s Policy Research Office Vice Director-General Ying Xiong, Member of Standing Committee of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Xiaoshan Disctrict Party Secretary Sheng Yuechun, and Hangzhou Vice Mayor Wang Hong were also present at the signing ceremony.
