Chinese President Xi Jinping has pointed out that tourism is an important channel for communications and mutual learning between different countries and cultures, an effective means for developing the economy and increasing employment, and a key industry for improving people’s living standards. In recent years, the world tourism industry has kept growing and become the largest and fastest-growing industry in the global economy and an important driving force for job creation, earning foreign exchange through export and promoting infrastructure construction. The outbound tourism has seen a rising tendency as a whole, and the shares of developing countries and emerging economies in the global tourism market have increased remarkably. ""
Premier Li Keqiang sent a congratulatory letter to the WTA, in which he said "the fast development of tourism industry provides a historical opportunity but also faces the challenges of the time. All parties should communicate, deepen cooperation and form a united force to relaize the balanced and inclusive tourism development among different regions. The government should play an active role in promoting cooperation, and private forces should be given full play too to utilize the wisdom and resources of the global tourism industry. Tourism associations, enterprises and think tanks in different countries should take an active part to boost the sustainable development of tourism as well. I believe the WTA will create a new platform and provide new opportunities for that goal. The Chinese government will pay close attention and give strong support to WTA and create vaster space for its development. We welcome the participation of the tourism industry from all countries, so we can all play a constructive part to continuously improve the global tourism governing system."
Li noted that the founding of the WTA follows the general trends of the world tourism development and lives up to the expectations of the global tourism industry. It emerges at the right moment and is bound to thrive. We must thoroughly implement the guiding principles of Xi, give full play to the important role of WTA in improving the world tourism cooperation mechanism and global tourism governance system, promote communications, deepen cooperation, take initiative to take part in the "Belt & Road" initiative, and make positive contributions to promoting the global tourism development and strengthening international tourism communications and cooperation.
